Welcome at the Flower parade Valkenswaard

Every year, on the 3rd Sunday of September, the “Stichting Bloemencorso Valkenswaard” (Foundation Flower parade Valkenswaard) organizes the annual Flower Parade. A dahlia parade of 13 beautiful flower parade wagons (12 meters long, 3.5 meters wide and 5.5 meters high) and 11 youth wagons together with street artist, show bands and harmonies from all over the Netherlands form a colorful experience for young and old. Since 2022 there has been a renewed concept through the collarboration with Theater De Hofnar: Corso & Cultuur Festival. The opening of the cultural season in Valkenswaard and completely free to visit.

The Corso Valkenswaard originated in the years after World War 2. Every year on September 17, children decorated their bicycles and carts with flowers and rode them through the streets. The Flower Parade, as we still know it, has existed since 1953. A big party to commemorate the liberation of Valkenswaard and to celebrate our freedom.

In mid-June, large flower parade tents wil be erected in the village where the wagons will be built and where everyone can contribute. Several hundred people work on the trucks and on the cultivation of the dahlias. In the last 3 days before the parade, the dahlias are pinned to the wagons, a total of 2.5 million flowers, wich are attachted to the wagons with nails. Early in the morning of the 3rd Sunday in September, the homemade wagons leave the tents and continue their route in the center of Valkenswaard. The flower parade is the largest socio-cultural event in Valkenswaard.

Corso Valkenswaars has a new theme every year. That theme is depicted in wagons of dahlias, in figuration, in street theater and in (live) music. Activities for young and old are organized on the route before, after and even during the flower parade. Enough for a day out in cozy Valkenswaard.
